SON OF HIS LOVE

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love - Colossians 1:13.
God embodies love; all He does is from a place of love. And the phrase The Son of His Love reminds me of God's Love for humanity and it is the reason for the season. As we celebrate Christmas, I am reminded of this; the sole purpose of Christ’s birth was to die to reconcile man to God.
I know the world celebrates Valentine’s Day as the day of love, but for me, Christmas is the day of love because the purpose of Christ's birth is born out of God’s love for humanity.
When I celebrate Christmas, I constantly remember God’s love for me and that Christ came to earth in human form just for my sake. Remember, we were created in God's image and likeness. It was
God’s original intention and still His intention that we embody all He is. But in man’s ignorance, without the knowledge that we were already like Him, and in our quest to have all the knowledge even when we were expressly warned against eating from the Tree of Life, we ate from the tree and fell from grace. Sacrifice was the only way to get us back to God’s grace. But no other sacrifice would suffice, except the death of Jesus Christ. Like the bible said in John 15:13 no greater love has a man, than for Him to lay down His life for his friends.
There are two ways to understand the Son of His love.
God’s Love for Jesus, His only begotten Son:
You know how much God loves Jesus because, during His baptism, God sent the Spirit as a dove and said “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased Matthew 3:17”. So that we don’t get it twisted.
Parents can relate to this. When you have a child, a profound love washes over you, especially knowing that the child is a product of you. For women, it is the miracle of giving birth to a child. We often talk about their features, who they look like, and all. And we know how we get when our child is sick; oh, we move mountains to make sure they get better. We can’t watch our kids get hurt, and I can’t imagine a parent willing to sacrifice their child for someone else.
The only person recorded in history who attempted to sacrifice their son was Abraham, and his sacrifice was a form of worship to God, so there it goes.
With Jesus, it is a different ball game, because Jesus is not just the son of God, but God himself in the flesh because as we know they are both one and the same 1 Timothy 3:16. I can’t begin to imagine what was going through God’s mind when He had to send His son a part of Him to earth to die for our redemption.
No, scrap that. I know that all God was thinking was, "My love for my creation is so great that I can’t leave them to their devices without giving them the permanent option to be reconciled back to me." He literally came up with the solution to the problem. His love for us was so great that He was willing to sacrifice His only begotten Son for our sake.
God’s Love for Humanity as His Creation
We know that the initial plan for humanity was to have constant communion with him before the fall of man. He created us in His image and likeness to be like Him Genesis 1: 26. It is His breath in our lungs because He breathed into us to give us life Genesis 2:7. But when man fell, we lost what made us like Him and we lost the relationship we had with Him and direct access to Him.
That is why, before Christ, the people needed prophets and priests who inquired of God on their behalf. They had to make animal sacrifices to atone for their sins, but that was only a temporary fix. Even with the sacrifice, the people had no access to God, and they couldn’t enter the Holy of Holies; the priests did that.
And then came Jesus with the permanent fix, and His sacrifice paved the way for us to be reconciled and gain direct access to God. As Christians, we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. That is Christ in us, the Godhead. We once again receive that which we lost by virtue of sin; we receive His essence, we have direct access to God, and we can enjoy sweet fellowship with Him.
My prayer is that we do not get caught up in the celebration of Christmas as a holiday and lose sight of the significance of the day we celebrate.
See you in the New Year fam, thank you so much for going on this ride with me in 2024.
Lots of Love,
Victoria
